He accepted an invitation to serve as chair of the music department at WWC in 1979, a position he has held for a record twenty-one years. He directed the bands until 1983. Shultz has continued to teach conducting, music education, and woodwinds, and is the primary teacher in the Introduction to Music classes, an area of great interest to him. Over 2,200 students have taken this elective class from him in the past fifteen years. Faculty; Band Director at AA from 1964 to 1968. Chair of the music department and professor of music at Walla Walla College, is retiring after forty years of teaching.
